Meet our Expert and Advisory Board

Paul Hunt qualified from Guys and St. Thomas’s (GKT) in 1999 with a cadetship in the Royal Army Medical Corps and currently works at the James Cook University Hospital. He holds a dual CCT in both Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine. He has been deployed on military operational duties to Northern Ireland and Iraq as an Infantry Regimental Medical Officer, to Iraq and Afghanistan as an Emergency Physician, to Sierra Leone in support of the Ebola crisis and a number of Defense Healthcare Engagement missions with international partners. His main subject matter interests are trauma critical care; emergency preparedness, resilience and response; traumatic brain injury; clinical leadership and decision-making.

Harm Bastian Harms is the Head of the “International Projects and Cooperations” (IPC) department at the federal office of Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe since 2011. His tasks include the participation of Johanniter in the European Union’s civil protection mechanism, the organization and implementation of trainings and exercises at European level as well as research in projects on security, space and civil protection.

Dr Andreas Tanos is an orthopaedic surgeon and traumatologist in Cyprus and holds degrees from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the American University of Beirut. He has different roles at national and international levels, such as Secretary General of the UEMS section of Orthopaedics – Traumatology; member of the Examining Board of European Diploma in Orthopaedics (EBOT/ UEMS); founder member of the Academy of European Federation Orthopaedic – Traumatology (EFORT); active member of the New York Academy of Sciences.

Ana Maria Cintora is a member of the Research Commission of SUMMA112 (Madrid EMS) and acts as its secretary. She is the Principal Investigator of SUMMA112 in the H2020 FASTER Project. Ms Cintora has been working in the Training Department until June 2019. She combines her research activity with a clinical post in the Mobile ICU #3 of the SUMMA located next to the Carlos III Health Institute.

Isabel Casado works in the Resources department at EMS Madrid. She is an emergency physician with 26 years of experience in the EMS field. She holds a master’s degree in Pediatric emergencies and in Management of a public administration as well as a specialization diploma in Coordinated management of health resources in emergencies and disasters. She is an author of more than 20 national and international publications and a speaker in more than 30 scientific events. Ms. Casado is part of the Board of Directors of SEMES (Spanish Society of Emergency Medicine) and is responsible for quality accreditation of EMS.

MD FCCS FIPP, is an Anesthesiologist-Pain Specialist and eHealth/Telemedicine consultant. He graduated as a Medical Doctor at the University of Maastricht. During his study he did various research in the medical field and is an author of an extensive list of publications. After his graduation he received additional training in Intensive Care medicine , general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery. Subsequently Mr. Peel was trained as an Anesthesiologist and Pain Specialist at the University Hospital Maastricht . After his board certification he worked abroad as an Anesthesiologist and Emergency Physician. Since a few years he is involved in EHealth and Telemedicine projects as Medical Advisor of DXC-Technology and Telemedicine consultant. He is specialized in Telemedicine in Ambulances. Currently he is involved in the Medical Assistance Remote Specialist ( MARS) –project in Ambulances and application of Telemedicine in wound care.

Jerry Nolan is a consultant in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine at the Royal United Hospital, Bath, Professor of Resuscitation Medicine at the University of Warwick, and Honorary Professor of Resuscitation Medicine at the University of Bristol, UK. He undertook anaesthesia and critical care training in the UK in Plymouth, Bristol, Bath and Southampton, and at the Shock Trauma Center, Baltimore in the United States. Mr. Nolan is Chairman of the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) and Editor-in-Chief of the journal Resuscitation. He has authored over 300 original papers, reviews and editorials on cardiopulmonary resuscitation, airway management, and post-cardiac arrest treatment.

Pier Luigi Ingrassia started in Italian NHS hospitals as consultant in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care. He continued his professional development as a technical officer in emergency medical systems for the Regional Office of Europe of World Health Organization. In the current role of Researcher at Università del Piemonte Orientale, he is leading the Simulation Centre in Health Science and doing research in the field of simulation-based learning and teaching. Mr. Ingrassia lectured in many national and international scientific congresses and is an author of more than 45 research articles published in peer review journals.

Medical doctor, graduated from Università Cattolica in Rome, Italy (1979) and specialized in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (1982). He was the first Associate Professor in Disaster Medicine in Italy and currently is full Professor in Anaesthesia, Critical Care, and Critical Emergency Medicine at the Università del Piemonte Orientale, Novara, Italy. Prof. Della Corte is the Founder of the European Master in Disaster Medicine (EMDM) and of CRIMEDIM, International Center for Research and Education in Disaster Medicine, official WHO Collaborative Center.  

Prof. Della Corte is the Coordinator of the H2020 NO-FEAR project and was involved in different projects funded by European Union. He authored more than 170 full papers published on peer-reviewed, impacted journals and was invited as speaker in more than 300 national and international congresses.

Arkady Popov is Head of the North Estonia Regional Hospital ambulance center. Mr. Popov studied medicine at the University of Tartu and psychology in St. Petersburg. On March 24, 2020 he was appointed as Chief Emergency Medical Officer at the Health Board which coordinates the activities of the Estonian medical institutions during emergencies. He is a member of the board of the Estonian Society of Emergency Medicine and the non-profit Estonian Ambulance Association.

Prof. Dr. Gokhan Akbulut is a professor of general surgery and currently CEO and head physician of Tinaztepe Galen Hospital. He was the coordinator of Izmir Trauma Project and has published a book on “Palliative Care”. His fields of interest are Gastroenterological and Oncologic Surgery, Advance Laparoscopy, Gastrointestinal Therapeutical and Diagnostic Endoscopy, Trauma Surgery, Disaster Medicine, Digital Achievement, Medical Education, Virtual and Alternative Education Technics.

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Eryılmaz is a professor of general and war surgery. He participated in scholar -fellowship at Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in 2011 with a focus on “Individual and Mass Causality Incident Trauma Management”. Prof. Dr. Eryılmaz published scientific books and articles on “Disaster Health Response”.

César Carballo Cardona is a Head of Unit at the Emergency Service of the Ramón y Cajal University Hospital and a vice president of SEMES (Spanish Society of Emergency Medicine and Emergencies) in the Community of Madrid. Dr. Carballo graduated in Medicine from the University of Alcalá de Henares in 1999. He completed his specialty in Family and Community Medicine at the Doce de Octubre University Hospital in 2003. He worked in the emergency department of several hospitals for more than 15 years. Dr. Carballo is a specialist in occupational risks in the branch of industrial hygiene.

Dr. Pyrros graduated from Ioannina Medical School in 1986 and received his specialization in Orthopaedic Surgery from the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Athens in 1994. Dr. Pyrros is the Director of Medical Services of EKAB HQ in Athens.  He has been a doctor with EKAB since 1997 and a flight doctor at the Department of Aeromedical Evacuations since its establishment in 2000. From February 2001 to November 2004, Dr. Pyrros worked with the Health Services Department of the Organizing Committee for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens as Venues Complex Medical Manager and Director of the Olympic Village Polyclinic.

Bob Dobson is a specialist paramedic and lecturer for MRMI (Medical Response to Mass Incidents). Mr Dobson spent 34 years in the London Ambulance Service (LAS) where he was a founder member of the LAS team setting up the National Paramedic course.  Mr. Dobson has attended many of the major incidents in and around London over the last 30 years with both operational and tactical command roles.  He was involved in the contingency planning and training for stadia events around London. Mr. Dobson is currently the Secretary of the Disaster and Military Section of ESTES (European Society of Trauma and Emergency Surgery).

Javier Espuch is a Business Development Manager at Embention Sistemas Inteligentes S.L. The company develops components and critical systems for UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems), also known as RPAS, and commonly called Drones. Their work is based on the daily innovation of their products, improving permanently their capabilities and performance.

Kersten ENKE is currently a principal of the Johanniter-Academy in Lower Saxony/Bremen, Head of the State Registered Paramedic School and Head of the School for Care. He has covered many other important roles, among those: Advisory Panel Education in the Johanniter (St John) Educational System, County Examination Board for EMT I, Ministry of the Interior, Lower Saxony, Founding Member of the German Representative Body for the Emergency Service (DBRD) and the German Panel for Resuscitation of Children. He is the author of a number of scientific publications on EMS.

Dr Rainer Thell specialised in Anesthesiology and intensive care and holds a Degree in Medicine from the University of Vienna. In addition, Dr Rainer is the Medical Director of Johanniter Austria, Clinical Ethics Advisor and gave University lectures in Medical Ethics. He also worked for St. John Ambulance in Australia as an emergency doctor.

Anastasia Zygoura is active in the fields of Emergency Health Care and Mass casualties’ management. She is a director of the Medical Service and Special Unit for Disaster Medicine at the Hellenic National Center for Emergency Care. Ms. Zygoura was in charge of the planning and providing emergency prehospital health care and transportation for all persons during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Athens and other Olympic Cities, including conventional health care but also mass casualty health care related to natural disasters, transportation accidents, terrorist attacks and CBRN threats.
